Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair is an alopecia (hair loss) treatment that involves using the patient's own blood to stimulate hair growth. PRP contains a high concentration of platelets, which are rich in growth factors and proteins that promote tissue repair and regeneration.

At Sun & Shade Med Spa, we understand the effect hair loss has on one’s self esteem and we are here to provide you with valuable insights into this revolutionary hair restoration technique.

How does PRP for hair loss work?

This treatment involves extracting a patient's own blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting the platelets into the scalp to encourage hair follicle rejuvenation.

Platelets contain growth factors and other bioactive proteins that help stimulate hair follicle repair and regeneration. In PRP,  a high concentration of platelets are used to accelerate new hair follicle regeneration  and stimulate the growth of new hair.

How long does PRP for hair loss take to show results?

While results can vary depending on factors such as the extent of hair loss and the length of time hair loss has occurred for. Many people notice improvements in hair texture and thickness within 6 - 12 weeks. Some patients report decreased shedding. 6-12 months after PRP treatment, patients may begin to see more significant improvements in hair density and coverage.

Does PRP for hair hurt?

PRP is a well-tolerated, almost pain free treatment, thanks to the topical anesthetic that is applied on the treatment area 10 - 15 mins prior to treatment.

How many PRP treatments will I need to see results?

While individual results may vary, most patients see noticeable improvements after three to four sessions spaced about four weeks apart.

How should I prepare for my PRP treatment?

We recommend our clients to temporarily discontinue any retinol, retinoids, vit A creams 3-5 days prior to the treatment. Additionally avoid any blood thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil)  prior to treatment. This will help minimize any bruising after the procedure. Protection of the skin against UV radiation immediately after treatment is very important to avoid any post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Does PRP involve any downtime?

After the procedure, patients may experience some redness, soreness or swelling of the scalp, which typically subsides within 1-3 days. Hair can be washed with mild shampoo after 24 hrs. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after PRP treatment, although it's advisable to avoid sun exposure and strenuous exercise for the first 24 hrs.
