IPL PHOTOFACIALS
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-laser light therapy used treat a variety of skin conditions such as sun damage (hyperpigmentation), active acne, uneven texturevisible veins (spider veins)broken facial capillaries, and thus reduce the redness associated with rosacea. Additional treatments continue to improve tone, texture, and stimulate the dermis to produce more collagen fading away fine lines and wrinkles.
The Optima - 518 Classic by Active uses IPL light at different wavelengths to target varying pigments in the dermal layer of skin. This allows it to selectively break down hyperpigmented skin cells, broken blood vessels, acne causing bacteria and damaged skin cells while simultaneously protecting the outer epidermal layer.  Active's GEM-PL technology, sets the pulse pattern according to the selected treatment type, skin color and skin photosensitivity, allowing a comfortable treatment for each individual.

FAQ:

Is IPL Photofacial safe for all skin types?

Since IPL targets pigments in the skin, this treatment is not recommended for darker skin types, due to higher concentration of melanin pigment in their skin.

How does IPL Photofacial help with acne?

Shorter wavelengths in the blue light spectrum target P. Acne bacteria present in our sebaceous glands. A photodynamic reaction between blue light and photoporphyrin (light- sensitive molecules) found in the  bacterial cell membrane, results in oxidation and free radical damage to the bacterial cell membrane. P.Acne are destroyed in this free radical environment, reducing bacterial count in the skin and stopping the inflammatory process within the sebaceous gland.  The procedure is a low risk treatment with no down-time, which can offer gradual and safe improvements for patients with active papular-papulopustular acne.

How long does IPL Photofacial take to show results?

Results vary depending on the condition being treated and the initial skin condition of the patient. On average, patients notice visible improvement in two to three sessions.

Does IPL Photofacial hurt?

Mesotherapy is a well-tolerated treatment. A cooling ultrasound gel is used prior to treatment in order to protect the skin from heat produced by the light and ensure a comfortable, pain-free procedure. Most patients describe IPL Photofacials to like a gentle snap of an elastic band against the skin.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the initial skin condition of the patient and their skin's response to the treatment. Typically, a series of 3- 6 treatments are recommended for best results.

How should I prepare for my IPL treatment?

We recommend patients to temporarily discontinue any retinol, retinoids, vit A creams, AHA or BHA exfoliants 7 days prior to the treatment. Avoid tanning beds or unprotected exposure to the sun 7 - 10 days prior. Additionally avoid any blood thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng 48 - 72 hrs prior to treatment. This will help minimize any bruising after the procedure. Protection of the skin again UV radiation immediately after treatment is very important to avoid any post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Does IPL involve any downtime?

IPL Photofacials involve little to no downtime. Most patients experience slight flushing of the skin immediately post treatment, which should resolve within 24 hours without any intervention. Temporary darkening of freckles and brown spots after each treatment is normal, and should resolve within a few days.
