What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny micro-needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger your body’s natural healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production. The result? Reduced appearance of fine lines, acne scars, uneven texture, and pigmentation.

Our Oakville microneedling treatments are customized for your skin type and concerns, so you get results safely and comfortably.

FAQ:

How does Microneedling work?
Microneedling involves the use of an electric skin-needling device that contains 12  fine needles. This device slides along the skin and penetrates dermal and epidermal layers of the skin, up to a depth of 2.5mm to create tiny micro-injuries. These micro-injuries signals the body to respond by breaking down scarred/pigmented tissue, trigger new cell generation and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in even toned, tighter, smoother, bouncy skin.

How long do Microneedling take to show results?
While results can vary depending on factors such as the individual's skin condition and skin type, many people notice improvements in their skin's appearance within 1-2 weeks of PRP treatment. Many patients report an instant firmness and “glow” to their skin. However, results continue to improve up to 6 months after treatment as collagen remodeling continues.

What areas can be treated with Microneedling?
Microneedling can be used on all parts of the body. Common areas include: face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

Does Microneedling hurt?
Microneedling is a well-tolerated, almost pain free treatment, thanks to the topical anesthetic that is applied on the treatment area 10 - 15 mins prior to treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
Although, many patients see results right away, a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results. Patients with advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars are recommended 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals for best results.

How should I prepare for my Microneedling treatment?
We recommend our clients to temporarily discontinue any retinol, retinoids, vit A creams 3-5 days prior to the treatment. Additionally avoid any blood thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil), Gingko Biloba, or Ginseng prior to treatment. This will help minimize any bruising after the procedure. Protection of the skin again UV radiation immediately after treatment is very important to avoid any post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Does Microneedling involve any downtime?

Microneedling involves none to minimum downtime.  Most patients experience a bright redness to the skin, immediately after the treatment. However, the total downtime depends on the setting used and the number of overlapping passes performed. A higher depth and increased number of passes results in a greater downtime.

Although, many patients heal completely within the first 24 hours, fairer skin types may experience redness for longer period (2 - 4 days). Use of a hydrating agent such as hyaluronic acid after treatment can help reduce inflammation significantly. Makeup application can be resumed 24 hours post treatment
